Extended Day Program

The Early Learning Program is a Ministry of Education initiative that brought Full-Day Kindergarten to Ontario. There are two components to the program — the Core Program which represents the full-day classroom component and the Extended Day Program which represents the before and after school program.

In the Core Program certified teachers and registered early childhood educators work together to deliver the Full-Day Kindergarten Program. Students receive instruction and play-based learning with both the teacher and the early childhood educator. The students develop their capacity in language and mathematics, and build a strong foundation for future learning. In addition they engage in healthy physical activities and enjoy arts education. Full-Day Kindergarten offers students the opportunity to develop skills to become more comfortable in social settings and to interact with their peers and the adults who guide them.

All schools with kindergarten classes in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board offer the Full-Day Early Learning Program for junior and senior kindergarten students. Please visit the OCDSB Extended Day Program for more information.

The Extended Day Program is offered at Lakeview for students in JK to Grade 6. All Extended Day Programs are designed to provide before and after-school programming for children registered within the school and will be led by a Registered Early Childhood Educator. The Extended Day Program is an optional program that is offered for a fee where 3 or more children are enrolled.

Transportation

Eligibility for school buses is as follows: more than 800 metres (0.8 km) from pick-up/drop-off address to school for Junior and Senior Kindergarten; 1.6 km from pick-up/drop-off address to school for grades 1 to 8. Once your child has registered at Lakeview, you can check bus stop information (location and time) using the Stop Locator. If information does not pop up, your child has not been assigned a seat. Call our office to check eligibility.

A School Bus Safety Awareness Day for first time riders will be held at various locations in August. Visit www.ottawaschoolbus.ca/resources/sad for more information.

Variable Transportation

Families with joint custody arrangements and two home addresses may be eligible for Variable Transportation if both addresses are within Lakeview's boundaries and both are eligible for transportation. Certain conditions will apply. Click here for a link to the application form (TRA-T22A). A schedule must also be completed (TRA-T22B).

Empty Seat Policy

Students who are not eligible for a bus may apply for an empty seat. Applications are available on-line and at the school office. Please note that there may not be enough empty seats for everyone who applies. OCDSB policy states that empty seats may not be assigned before October 1 each year. Empty seat students must reapply each year, and are not able to ride the school bus in September.
